Life After MLM Discord Server

Discord serves as a comprehensive platform for voice and text communication, enabling creators to establish exclusive, invite-only communities. Through Patreon's Discord integration, the roles on creators' servers are synchronized with their corresponding Patreon tiers, providing members with exclusive access and permissions.

For a detailed understanding of servers and their functionality, Discord offers an excellent resource in the form of the "Beginner's Guide to Discord."

As for Life After MLM, we see Discord as the best platform to solidify and grow the community that has come organically out of the podcast. It will allow us to build out a coalition of Anti-MLM activists, and help organize all of the extra community events and Patreon perks the team cooks up in addition to Bonus Content.

To set up a Discord account and begin using the application on your mobile device, follow these steps:

1. For Android users, navigate to the Play Store; for iOS users, visit the App Store.
2. After installing the app, tap on the icon to launch it.
3. If you're a first-time Discord user, click on "Register" to create your account. Input the following details:
   Desired username
   Email address or phone number (if you are a Patron, use the same email address you did with Patreon)
   Password
4. Once you've provided the necessary information, select "Create an account" to activate your Discord account.

Remember to check your email for the verification process. Confirming your email ensures you can recover your account if you forget your password. Failure to verify your new account within 7 days will result in your username being appended with a random 5-digit code.

Discord can be accessed directly in most web browsers, but most frequent users prefer to install the Discord software. This will allow you to keep it open separately in the background, and can improve some performance issues. To use Discord from the web browser, click here.

To create a Discord account from the web browser:

1. Go to discordapp.com.
2. Click Open Discord in your browser.
3. Enter the username you want to use and click the arrow.
4. Complete the Captcha as directed.
5. A popup will appear and give you the option to Get Started with creating a new server, or skipping ahead to finish creating your account. Click Skip.
6. Discord will then ask you to claim and secure your account by entering your email address and setting a password. When done, click Claim Account.
7. A popup will appear to offer a download link for the Discord desktop application, click X to skip this for now.
8. To complete the account creation process, log into your email account and find the confirmation email. Click the link within that email to verify your new Discord account.

On a computer/web browser:

1. Log in to your Patreon account.
2. Click on Settings from the left side menu.
3. Click on More and then Connected Apps from the menu bar.
4. Click on Discord and then click the Connect button.

 On a mobile device:

1. Click here to access Patreon's App Settings directly in your phone's web browser, as we've not found a way to do this in the Patreon application.
2. Log into your Patreon account if/when asked.
3. Select Discord, and then tap Connect.

Welcome to Discord! If you're new to the platform, here are a few steps to get you started:

• Familiarize yourself with the various channels: Explore the different text and voice channels available in the server. Each channel may have a specific topic or purpose.
• Introduce yourself: Feel free to make a post in the general chat or introduction channel to let others know you're new and eager to participate.
• Review the Server Guide, Welcome, and Announcements Channels: Check for any pinned messages in channels, as they often contain important information, rules, or announcements.
• Participate in ongoing discussions: Join in on conversations that interest you and engage with other community members.

If you have specific questions or need assistance, don't hesitate to ask in the general chat or reach out to the LAMLM Staff role.

Discord supports various text formatting options to enhance your messages. Here are some common formatting techniques:

• Bold Text: Surround your text with double asterisks or double underscores, like **this** or __this__.
• Italic Text: Use a single asterisk or underscore, like *this* or _this_.
• Underlined Text: Place double vertical bars around your text, like ||this||.
• Strikethrough Text: Use double tilde symbols, like ~~this~~.

Feel free to experiment and make your messages visually appealing!

In our server, we currently have two bots: The Hunbot's Assistant and HunBerta (although HunBerta is currently hibernating for the Winter). The Hunbot's Assistant is accessible in all channels and responds when tagged. It will carry on a limited amount of AI-backed conversation, so ask anything, literally! Additionally, it features a few custom commands that you can use for specific functionalities. Feel free to explore and utilize these commands to enhance your experience within the community! 

If you would like to conveniently and securely login into the Discord desktop client, you can also use the QR Code Login feature via the Discord mobile app to do so.

1. First, click here to open Discord on your computer's web browser.
2. Then, in order to use QR Code Login, you will need to log into or open your Discord app on the mobile device.
3. Then open the User Settings menu by pressing your profile icon in the bottom left corner.
4. Once you’ve been redirected to the Overview page, select the Scan QR Code option to enable your camera mode for the QR scan.
   Note: The app will ask for camera permissions on your mobile device in order to scan the QR Code!
5. After the scanner is triggered, line up the box with the QR code on the computer screen. and then you’ll be asked to verify your Discord login on the mobile device.
